The Day The Rainbow Died

Shimmering with light
The air bore white, glowing raindrops
Skywards and to the east
A trail of fragile beauty
Leading me to the rainbow

There was a hush
As if the world was loathe to disturb
A timeless fragment of beauty

I stood so in awe
Drinking in colours
That I forgot Death approached

So slowly swift
With no hue and cry
Save my silent cry of Live
A deathly quiet fading
Every second less of this world

No bleeding I could staunch
No wound for me to heal
Helpless watching from afar
Until the clouds cleared
The day the rainbow died
