How much tension can a country bear
When a chain born in curiosity
Raised in love
And cemented by fear and pain
Holds two hearts taut in its grip?
Does anyone look at a map
And in a certain light
Glimpse the truth?
That between Toronto and Vancouver is a line of force
Physically non-existent yet palpably real
A testament to a myriad of possibilities
Collapsed into an eventuality
Which like a black hole from a dying star
Pierces the veil of time
I am drawn to its focal point, which doesn't exist
(a circle has no end unless you steal its centre)
A former future which died in the winter cold
And I'm reminded of the time when my anger
Drew back time's curtains long enough to see
A glass shatter and a boy scream
